Simon likes to tell his story as if his parents life were a cheap romance novel, two nobles, one you could pull of anyone's shelf, a lord and his lady, trying desperately to beget themselves an heir and prove their love for each other. It's how he always heard it growing up, and finds it a damn touching story when he tells it right.

But Simon thinks there are better parts, more interesting parts, and lately has decided to leave all of that out and skip up until the point he met Anemone. He remembers it perfectly. He couldn't have been older than fourteen, which when you think about it, means he's left out more than half of his life already, so begrudginly he'll back up to tell you about his childhood. About his dozens of cousins, mostly girls, some pretty and sweet and some ugly and cruel, about his extended family and his parents parties. About his training with a sword and his studies as a boy and his playing war in the Korin snow against some of his uglier cousins, perfecting his aim with how many snowballs he could hit their faces with.

But none of that matters, Simon will say, because none of it included Anemone. He was in the practice yard when she first entered, riding in on a pegasus, looking perfect, poised, and, Simon says, left him dumbstruck long enough to be knocked down the master at arms. But Simon will wave that off, insisting she's forgotten about it by now, after all, it's been six, seven years.

She stayed for three years, and Simon spent every spare moment in her company, even if it did mean putting up with the company of his cousins. The three years passed, and really, Simon thought he couldn't be happier, but of course he knew they would end and that he would need to focus on his studies more so than ever if he were to really rule Hanmor. His parents were old, after all, and he needed to complete their story.

At twenty-one, though, they are indeed still alive, but have ceased to govern their lands, rulers merely in name, giving up nearly everything to Simon while they finish negotiations with Lahn about his upcoming marriage with Anemone, who he writes to every so often in Rayla, and that is how Simon likes to tell his story.

Simon has always been told he's a very likeable, friendly young man, and he supposes this is a very good thing to be. After all, hadn't Hanmor done a better job getting their people to love them rather than fear? Of course, Simon knows very well he would be hard pressed to rule them any other way, their current army the size it is, and continues to be the perfectly pleasant ruler he believes Hanmor wants.

Which of course, Simon would argue, doesn't mean he isn't perfectly nice and likeable and funny and friendly and all of that nonsense! Simon just wishes he could be something else, if not to his family, than to at least somebody, preferably Anemone.

Growing up he had a fascination with bards and singers, and it was through this childhood obsession he learned how to tell stories, spinning words together to create perfect pictures for others to imagine.

Simon is strong without looking so, perhaps because of the thick clothes he wears thanks to the Korin climate. He keeps his hair short, hardly paying attention to it at all, and could even be considered good looking, almost generically so. His personality makes more of an impression than his actual appearance.

His posture is surprisingly poor for a noble, and he tends to slouch unless reminded otherwise.

Simon's best feature, though, is by far his voice. He speaks smoothly, treating words as if they were glass, or a fine wine, letting them roll off his tongue at the perfect pace to tell his stories.
